I don't see why the virus cares about virulence. It only cares about survival which is what is what selects infectiousness. Virulence tends to drive down survival of the virus so virulence should tend to be selected against.

Watching the video, around 35 minutes in, curious how Omicron emerged from mutation in vaccinated individuals when Omicron forked from the original strain, seemingly before vaccines were available? Not that I'm not wondering how Omicron suddenly emerged in a worldwide pack of variants long mutated past the original Wuhan strain without components of the existing variants. Or that, as Geert has taught us, vaccinating into a pandemic with a leaky vaccine leads to vaccine escaping variants.
