It seems this momentous decision has gone under the radar for most people. What evidence was used to make this decision?
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that Covid-19 no longer represents a "global health emergency".
The statement represents a major step towards ending the pandemic and comes three years after it first declared its highest level of alert over the virus.
Officials said the virus' death rate had dropped from a peak of more than 100,000 people per week in January 2021 to just over 3,500 on 24 April.
In order for this decision about reduced death related to COVID-19 to occur, it meant the information about COVID-19 infections around the world had to be tightly controlled.
After regularly sharing the Johns Hopkins Covid links to demonstrate that Omicron circulation was primarily in highly vaccinated regions, the updates then stopped in March 2023.
How would we be able to independently judge if the decisions taken by health leadership were appropriate?
The image below demonstrates that Covid vaccination numbers were falling across the world. Could this have been the main motivation, as there benefit of keeping the population anxious had waned?
Over the next 6 months, if this decision is correct, there should be no major mortality related to COVID-19 in the southern hemisphere as winter approaches.
Watch that space closely.
