Nasal interferon - Potential solution for Omicron
Good understanding of the pathology in a disease opens the doors to creative ideas for therapy. The main reason for increased community spread with Omicron is a combination of high early viral load and mucosal (upper airway) interferon suppression.
In order to reduce this advantage for the virus, we can pre-empt the interferon response in areas with high viral exposure.
Nasal interferon has been used for many years with success but not got mainstream promotion, probably because the studies were done in China.
